Chilumba Gets His Wisdom Teeth Removed
Posted: Aug 18th, 2006 at 10:05 am by chilumba
After listening to most people’s horror stories, I braved to proceed with my wisdom teeth extraction yesterday. Past stories included not taking anesthesia(== painfull), having dry sockets, crying when numbness cleared, doctor ignoring patient during surgery, NO STEAK, forgetting to pick up pain killer prescriptions, staying in bed for weeks,……WOW
Marasi called me in the morning before the procedure to wish me well. He too just had his wisdom teeth pulled a few months ago and was not able to talk for long on the phone when he recovered. Is that another horror story I can add to the list? Perhaps
But my process went pretty well – I got to the office at 8 AM and I was being driven back home by 8:40 AM. Removed all my wisdom teeth in less than an hour (I only had 3 wisdom teeth – one step ahead of evolution)
Whats up with the superman pictures?
I’ll be honest – I was nervous before this procedure. So before Nelly and I left the house, I rushed to the closet and pulled out my ‘Superman T-shirt’. That way, I could show everyone around me – “I aint scared!”
The doctor was amused by my chosing to wear the t-shirt and found it funny. I explained to him how I was nervous and hence grabbed my macho shirt to get ready for the procedure. He laughed and assured me that in 20 minutes he would be done, and I would be fine. From that point onwards, Dr. Trimble refered to me as superman.
I did not experience any pain. I had an IV and was sedated while my teeth were pulled out. I don’t rememeber the process. What I remember though is waking up and laughing with the nurses – aparently I was talking to them about Star Wars. I don’t even care too such for ‘Star Wars’. Nelly was glad I remembered her, after I played a “who are you joke”
I only took I dose of pain killers (before the anestesia ran out), and did not use any more after that. By 3PM, I was back on work email, and was eating (drinking really) soft foods and soup. I spoke to Bill on the phone for a few minutes, and he was shocked that I was speaking already on the day of my extraction. When he took out his a few months ago, he was knocked out and out of action for a few days.
So far, no pain, no complications, not nervous. I hope this continues through the weekend. Dr. Trimble knew what he was doing. Hit me up for referrals.
A week out, and I am still bragging about my extraction experience.
I was not swollen, and I did not experience any pain throughout the process. This episode went very-very well – better than I expected.
I am already back eating more solid food.
