World Cup soccer is almost here – 1 more day

Most people around me are not big fans of World cup soccer. It is actually funny that some people don’t even know when the event takes place. The world cup to me is like the super bowl to others. The world cup is like days-and-days of super bowl action. Obviously there will be some teams that I don’t care too much about (or some teams who made it to Germany by beating Zambia in the qualifiers). But this is a time to see excellent quality soccer.
The BBC website has set up a ‘World Cup Stock Exchange’ game which I have been playing for a few weeks(see http://www.bbc.co.uk/worldcupdaq/). They give you fake £10,000 to play with. They call the money “World Cup Daq Pounds”. You invest in the various world cup teams with an aim of making as much profit as you can. You make money by rising share (team trade) pieces, dividends dependent on the team’s press coverage, win and goal bonuses. Looking at today’s numbers, it looks like my portfolio has had a weekly gain of 49.60% so far. And when I signed in today, I had extra money because apparently Ghana scored many goals in one of its friendly matches (yes, Ghana is one of the teams in my portfolio). I guess I chose the right teams.
I wish my real portfolio can do as well as my World Cup Daq portfolio in one week.
