WebHost4Life sucks!
Not completely though.
If you do a web search, you will see that many people are slamming WebHost4Life. Poor tech support and unreliable sites have been the main problems highlighted in forums. For me though, the Tech support was alright (not that great). But the 99.9% uptime claim was not true as my site had many outages – mostly when I accessed it late evenings around 10/11 PM.
What happened?
The last few months, I have had major web site outages, database down times (2 complete outages in a two week period; and they might have been more times since I am not constantly checking my site). I have opened two priority 1 (Help!!! Server is down!!!), and two period 2 (things are not working) problem tickets over the last 2 months. Sometimes, I got a response from their tech support that everything was fine. To be really sure that my home internet was not messed up, I called someone else to try and access it for me, and I even went to the extent of tying access the website from my internet enabled Smartphone – and still no access. An hour later, site is working and tech-support says they do not see anything wrong. Ofcourse – I am the crazy one seeing things (in this case, “not seeing”).
But it is technology and it can fail!
It is OK to have down-times here and there, but over the last few months, webhost4life has just not been working out. So I decided to email their CEO (ceo@webhost4life). When you log into their site, there is an option to email the CEO if you are unhappy with your service. I did not get a reply – nor acknowledgment that he/she received my email. Why advertise this closeness to customers when you know you do not have something in place on acknowledging them? And then last week, my database was down and eventually moved (and I could not successfully create a back up using their tools). I had to manually retrieve each-and-every-table, create my manual back – 22 tables == 22 files == 22 times of being a monkey!!!!
Trying to run a web server at the house?
I am not at a point of running a web-server at the crib. Too many things to worry about.
But for now, I have moved to bigger and greater things. I will be giving Yahoo! Hosting a shot.
So for people who have asked me about web hosting, you can take WebHost4Life off my recommended list. As usual – YMMV. But from my experiences with them, your mileage will not vary as you can see from a guick live search for search terms like – “WebHost4Life +problems +sucks” . A google search for the same search terms (“WebHost4Life +problems +sucks” ) is more explicit.

I guess “for life” was more of a punishment than a commitment.
webhost4 a month continues to spiral into the depths of unbelievably. 25-minute support wait time at 8AM. Knowing these people, it is most likely a delay to make you give up and go away, but if you do decide to hang around, you will get disconnected after 20 minutes & hearing over and over how fast the CHAT line is. Don’t be fooled, you will think the entire internet has died and gone away before you get a chat response. Support ticket is an exercise in stupidity, yours for thinking they will admit to breaking your working site and waiting for hour upon hour for a response. Do NOT under any circumstance check the elevate to manger box. You might as well expect snow in July in the desert. The biggest joke on customer, email the CEO!!! Do NOT walk, RUN as far far away.
webhost4life SUCKS
I just got screwed by these people really badly.
On 4/24 I put in a ticket that all 5 of my sites were down. They responded that there was a PERL bug on the server. Everything was up quickly. On 4/20 I went to my site and it was down… but just that site. My other sites were up. So I put in a ticket.
The reply to my ticket knocked me off my chair. They said they suspended me for violating the TOS by running a paypal spoofing site. I honestly had no idea what the hell they were talking about. I checked my ftp and sure enough a file called Paypal.php had been placed in one of my image directories.
What’s interesting is that file was uploaded on 4/24; the same day they had their PERL problem. It sounds like their server got hacked to me.
They refused to restore my site though! I told them to check the logs and see that the ip that uploaded the spoof file is not my ip! the last time I uploaded ANYTHING to this site was 7 months ago!
I gave up on calling. I chatted with them 9 times over 4 days. Every single time they told me it was being worked on and would be restored soon. Finally this morning they replied to my ticket that they are completely canceling my account. So now ALL of my sites are down. I can’t login to get my files… and I did NOTHING wrong! I’m completely innocent in all of this.
Well screw them. Even the host I had before, Fuitadnet.com, wasn’t this bad. Now I have to somehow get my sites moved to a new host while working 50+ hours a week and going to college full time. I’ve got people paying to advertise on my sites and they are not happy. This is a real mess.
Oops meant to say that on 4/30 I went to my site again and it was down…
