Comcast service moves never work!

Just before moving, I had shared my intentions of getting internet up and running. People at work told me that doing a service move with Comcast is painful, and I am better off canceling and signing up as a new customer. I did not listen!
The move did not immediately work because service was being cut-off by the previous house occupant, at the same time I was moving it there. Comcast guy said it would not be a problem and would put notes about it. Yeah right. I always even skeptical in one of my blog posting about how Comcast assured me thing s were going to be up and running.
Service was supposed to be on Friday 30th August, but I only got it working on Wednesday 5th September. Internet stopped working on the 7th (Friday) because the router hit into a walled-garden scenario (< I would not have hit into it if I was a new customer). Router could not be unlocked by Comcast, and I have to get a new router from the store. What was ridiculous about this whole incident was the fact that I took time off for my move, and factored it days for service people coming-in-and-out of the house. I had to take extra time-off to wait for their 4 hour time window. I couldn’t even work from home during that time since my internet was not working.
After sharing my experience with a co-worker, the response he gave me was ‘What did you expect? It is comcastic’. I should have listened to earlier advice.
So if you are thinking of moving your service, and you don’t want to build on your move stress, think about what is the best option for you. I have sent mail to Comcast, and the better business bureau about this – so maybe next time, no-one will have to go through the hustle of getting service up.
If I had their advertised phone service I would have been phone-less too at the time I needed the phone the most. Once Verizon FIOS becomes available in my neighborhood, I might have to re-analyze my relationship with Comcast. Their DVD software was upgraded downgraded from MS TV Foundation Series to the iGuide. The iGuide experience is HORRIBLE. I might have to go with the Media Center option (make GK happy). And I am still working on weaning the wife off the ‘On Demand Option’ that Comcast has – I don’t mind walking/driving/running to blockbuster which is less than a mile away from my house. And Netflix now has the video over the net option.
I am no longer with Comcast.
Their crappy service, and outages got to me.
I now have blasing fast Verizon FIOS!!!!!!
